About Dr Elaine Smith

I run an independent psychology practice providing training to organisations and (online) individual therapy. I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2016, and am now in the very fortunate position of blending my interests in psychology and business.

Throughout my career, I have always been fascinated by leadership, and organisational culture. I have observed varied leadership styles, and have witnessed the impact of both healthy and unhealthy organisational culture.

I have also worked with many clients who have sought therapy due to work-related stress and trauma. It has really struck me that there are so many opportunities to support employees, and to really nurture your workforce. Unfortunately, this does not always happen, and many individuals can feel forgotten and undervalued.

There are many ways of conceptualising workplace mental health. It is complex and multi-faceted just like us as humans. I think the concept of 'psychological safety' encapsulates the most important parts of mentally healthy workplaces, very well. I am excited to focus on developing relationships with corporate organisations, to provide consultancy services, and bespoke training materials that can be used flexibly in house.

My online therapy practice also dovetails my corporate work, as many clients present with work-related stress. This helps me to maintain a fresh perspective on the employee experience as a clinician.

I love to collaborate on wellbeing projects, and bring innovative thinking to organisations. When we are in the situation, we sometimes cannot see the 'wood for the trees'. In the words of Shannon A. Thompson 'Sometimes an outside perspective is the clearer perspective'.

Thanks so much for reading. Please do not hesitate to contact me to enquire about psychological therapy or corporate wellbeing work.
